The 'sync' extension introduces synchronization objects into PHP. Named and unnamed Mutex, Semaphore, Event, Reader-Writer, and named Shared Memory objects provide OS-level synchronization mechanisms on both *NIX (POSIX shared memory and pthread shared memory synchronization required) and Windows platforms.
